The City of San Antonio operates 21 off-leash dog parks across the city, open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily at most locations. These are the most relevant for Von Ormy residents.
5414 Old Pearsall Rd #5346, San Antonio, TX 78242 | Open 24 hours
Pearsall Park is the closest and most convenient off-leash option for Von Ormy residents, roughly 15 minutes from Enclave at Medina. It offers a fenced off-leash area where dogs can run freely, with the wider 600-acre Pearsall Park grounds available for on-leash walking afterward. The park sees steady use on weekends, so weekday mornings tend to offer more space. Bring water, especially in warmer months.
350 Felps Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78221 | 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily
Kingsborough Park on San Antonio's south side is a quieter off-leash alternative that tends to be less crowded than Pearsall. A solid choice for dogs that do better in calmer environments or for owners who prefer a more relaxed visit. Open green space surrounds the off-leash area for additional on-leash exploration.
5815 N Loop 1604 W, San Antonio, TX 78257 | Mon-Sun 8 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
The Gunn Family Coyote Dog Park is one of the best dog park facilities in Bexar County. This 7.5-acre off-leash park reopened in August 2026 after renovations and features a dog agility course, walking trails, seating areas, dog wash stations, and play mounds. It is further north than Pearsall, but worth the drive for a longer outing.
City of San Antonio Dog Park Rules: All dogs must be vaccinated and licensed. Dogs stay on-leash outside designated off-leash zones. Owners must clean up waste. Puppies under four months may not enter off-leash areas.
Off-leash parks are great for high-energy bursts, but sometimes you and your dog want a longer walk through actual nature. The Von Ormy area is particularly well-situated for this. The Medina River corridor anchors some of the most accessible natural trail access in the San Antonio region, and it runs right through the community.
15890 TX-16, San Antonio, TX 78264 | Sunrise to Sunset daily
The Medina River Natural Area is the standout trail destination for Von Ormy dog owners. A 511-acre City of San Antonio park with 7 miles of trails through live oak and cedar bottomland, open meadow, and seasonal wildflowers, it is located directly off TX-16 just south of Von Ormy. Pets on leash are welcome throughout. The Medina River itself runs through the property, giving dogs the chance to wade in shaded, slow-moving water on warm days. Amenities include restrooms, a covered pavilion, water fountains, picnic tables, bike racks, and parking. Open sunrise to sunset every day.
Multiple access points along the Medina River corridor | Open daily
Connected to the Natural Area but extending much further, the Medina River Greenway is an 18-mile paved multi-use trail running along the Medina River through south Bexar County. Perfect for longer on-leash walks, runs, or rides with your dog. The paved surface is easy on paws, and the tree-lined river sections provide shade during warmer months. Multiple entry points along the corridor make it easy to start close to home.
The parks and trails in this guide are the backdrop. The everyday experience starts at home. At Enclave at Medina, pet owners have a private fenced yard with every home, which takes the pressure off needing a park for every single outing. Your dog can get outside, stretch out, and burn off energy without a car trip required.
